If you attended the VSO concert in 2012 where Dina Yoffe played the Chopin Concerto No. 2, you know how fantastic a chopinist she is. In the upcoming recital she will show the influence of Chopin’s work on Scriabin by playing and alternating between Chopin and Scriabin Preludes. Without a doubt, the highlight of the year is an appearance by Brazilian Nelson Freire, one of the world’s greatest living pianists. A CD of Freire's most coveted performances is included on Philips' acclaimed series, "Great Pianists of the 20th Century," released in 1999. Tom Deacon, the world famous executive producer of this series, is coming just for this concert from Toronto.

Ewa Poblocka, known in musical circles as the first lady of the piano in Poland; Charles Richard-Hamelin, silver medalist at the 17th International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, the first Canadian ever to win a top prize in this prestigious Competition; Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, considered by many critics to be incomparable for his Debussy and Ravel interpretations; and Sergei Babayan, one of today’s top pianists.
