Season Opening Concert

What a wonderful and memorable two weekends it is going to be! On the 10th and 17th of November, The Vancouver Chopin Society will present two pianists whose performances you would not want to miss.
All who attended Charles Richard-Hamelin stunning sold-out debut recital in 2016 would surely remember his incredible pianism as well as the depth and maturity of his interpretations. His upcoming recital on Saturday, November 10th, at 7:30 p.m will also be a celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Poland’s Regained Independence. Following the recital, the Polish consulate will host a very special reception for ALL audience members. Come and drink a toast to Poland, and to Chopin.
Ever since winning the silver medal at the 2015 International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, Charles Richard-Hamelin has been winning plaudits wherever he leaves his musical footprints. We are delighted and excited that Charles will be playing for Vancouver audiences again in a programme of Schumann and Chopin.

Charles will be also performing the two Chopin piano concertos this weekend with the Orchestra Symphonique de Montreal and maestro Kent Nagano. The October 14 concert will be filmed and broadcast live by Medici.tv at 2:30 PM in Montreal, Canada (EDT).

A popular pianist with both audience and critics wherever he plays, Nikolay Khozyainov is also making a welcomed return to Vancouver. In an interview with the San Diego Union-Tribune, Khozyainov talks about his love not just for music, but also for performing, “I always perform with a great joy…Everything I am saying to you through the musical sounds is coming from my heart, my soul. I play and live according to my inner life” - thoughtful words coming from so young an artist. Do come out and enjoy great performances by these two very different artists.
Nikolay Khozyainov will perform for us on Saturday, November 17th at 7:30 p.m.
Both concerts will take place at the Vancouver Playhouse. Mark your November calendars, and treat yourself to this mini music festival two weekends in a row.

The 2018-2019 season

The Vancouver Chopin Society is one of the few musical organizations in the city to offer a 25% discount for subscriptions and 20% discount for single tickets to seniors, students and B.C.R.M.T.A. members. The price for youth (grades 1 through 12) is again an incredible $15 per ticket.

Both the new season brochure and ticket order form can be opened and printed directly from our website. You can also open them here: the 2018-2019 season brochure or order form.

My trip to Europe

I just returned from an extended journey to Warsaw and Prague where I attended 34 concerts, most at the Chopin and His Europe Festival as well as  the 1st ever Chopin Competition on Period Instruments.
The 'Chopin and His Europe' Festival is without a doubt one of the best music festivals in the world, presenting world-class artists as well absolutely unique programmes. One hears the best musicians, orchestras and ensembles performing on historical and modern instruments. Some of the works performed are virtually unknown to the broader audience.
The tickets are very reasonable, perhaps around $15-$33 CAN for each performance. Combined this with low accommodation cost, you are able to enjoy great music by incredible artists at a very affordable price.

And then there was the first ever Chopin Competition on Period Instruments. For someone who has been accustomed to hearing Chopin’s works performed on a modern concert grand, it was a real revelation to hear this familiar music performed on instruments from his own time. If you are interested in more details about the competition, you can read a few excellent articles by clicking on to the links provided below.
