About our 2020-2021 Season

If you visit our web site, you would be able to look at our star-studded upcoming season, with performances by seasoned artists as well as rising stars.

As you know, there are, at present, still many uncertainties regarding how long the current policies of social distancing would go on for. We are, therefore, still waiting to see how things will look before we send out brochures and accept subscription and ticket requests. We will continue to monitor the directives from our health authorities before make further announcements.

For those of you who have credit for our upcoming concert(s), rest assured that it would be applied to the first concert we are able to present.

We promise to keep you posted with the latest development of our upcoming season.

Federico Colli to play for Vancouver audience

As you know, we had been forced to cancel the scheduled Vancouver debut of pianist Federico Colli.

To thank you all for your generous support during these most challenging times, we have arranged for Colli to record a short recital from his home in Italy.

As you know, The Vancouver Chopin Society is a non-profit organization that is operated entirely by volunteers. Because of all those who had donated their tickets to the cancelled concerts, we are using part of the funds you donated to directly support our performing artists.

This brief performance will be available hopefully before the end of May, and will include 4 Scarlatti sonatas, Bach’s Italian Concerto, BWV 971, and Bach-Busoni’s Chaconne in D minor. We will be writing to you with further details about how to access this performance.

We hope to reschedule Federico Colli to perform for us in a future season, but this will give you a glimpse into his artistry and pianism.

Tomasz Ritter Video Concert

Tomasz Ritter, winner of the first International Chopin Competition for Period Instruments, will also be recording a video concert just for Vancouver audiences. The recording will take place this month, and we will again be keeping you posted with details of the programme when this becomes available for viewing. Thank you for your patience, and support.

We also hope to re-present the Vancouver debut of Ritter in one of our future seasons. Please do stay tuned!

18th International Chopin Competition – Latest Update

Because of the threat of the current Corona virus pandemic, the 18th International Chopin Competition has been postponed to October of 2021. According to the L’Institut National Frederic Chopin, the list of the qualified pianists has and will not change. The competition will now take place from October 2nd to 23rd of 2021, at the National Philharmonic in Warsaw. Further details about the competition will be announced on May 14th.

It looks like the talented young pianist getting ready to travel to Warsaw this year will have more time to hone their craft!

With our heartfelt appreciation,
Patrick May, President
Iko Bylicki, Senior Manager
