Trifonov also won the Pnina Salzman award for “Best Performer of a Chopin piece” as well as the prizes for the “Best Performer of Chamber Music” and also the “Audience Favourite Award”.

Last fall, he won 3rd prize at the 16th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, one of the world’s most prestigious musical contests, in Warsaw, Poland.

He played recently at the Vancouver Playhouse where he demonstrated his brilliant technique and great musical sensitivity.

Yesterday in the Vancouver Sun, there was an announcement in the Westcoast Life section that we were sponsoring a concert of Chopin Piano Competition laureate Daniil Trifonov with Martha Argerich and Nelson Freire on May 1 at the Playhouse.
This is a major error.

Our Daniil Trifonov Concert is on May 8@ 7.30pm at The Playhouse, as we announced some time ago.

Somehow, the editors at The Sun took an old brochure of ours and added to this an announcement on the Internet from months ago that Martha Argerich and Nelson Freire would play piano duets
to open the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw.
This indeed happened in early October 2010!!
The tickets you have for the May 1 cancelled event are usable for the May 8 concert, same seats.

There are still tickets left for our fundraising event ; A Liszt Soiree at Aberthau Mansion May 7 at 7pm. Tickets are $125.00 each. Please call 604 871 4450 for information.
Celebrated Liszt specialist Adam Neiman will perform an all Liszt recital and Daniil Trifonov will be a Guest of Honour.

The Austrian pianist, who took second prize at recent (Oct 2010) International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, will launch his Yellow-label career with a solo Chopin recital, due out in April.
He will make his Canadian debut in Vancouver on February 26th, 2011 at 8 pm at Magee Theatre.

As you know, we set this date not knowing the winner, and unfortunately it did not work for the artist.
In her place we invited another Russian pianist and a top prize winner of this Competition, Daniil Trifonov. He got 3rd prize and a special prize for best performance of mazurkas.
This prestigious competition, coinciding in 2010 with the worldwide celebrations of the bicentennial of Chopin’s birth, brought to Warsaw unparalleled talents from all over the world, lifting the level of this particular competition to the highest in decades. That’s why we want to present to Vancouver audiences all top five pianists in the next few years. What is interesting that in online voting, Wunder and Trifonov were the clear winners, each receiving about a quarter of the votes.
