Those who attended Olga Kern's concert
enjoyed the performance tremendously as indicated by the four encores
she played, but for the record we would like to mention all of the
associated events that evening:
-
An
"Arabesque" Steinway piano, the only one of its kind in Canada, was
unveiled on
April 30 at Tom Lee Music and exhibited at the Playhouse at the evening
concert.
Please see
the link to find out more about this piano.
-
The
whole audience was invited for a reception
after the concert, hosted by the Polish Consul, to celebrate the 10th
anniversary of joining the European Union by Poland and nine other
countries.
-
Monique
Poncelet-Gheleyns, the owner of Daniel – Le Chocolat Belge received a
small token of appreciation for providing chocolates
and truffles at the receptions following the VCS's recitals for so many
years.
We extend our deepest thanks to those whose
support have helped us to run our series.
We are very proud to welcome you to the 17th

New Vancouver Classical Music
site
A new classical music site has been launched for
Vancouverities which can act as your definitive reference for all
classical music events
in the city.
The site has been launched by Geoffrey Newman who teaches Economics
at UBC, but he is also a music journalist reflecting on the music life
in
Vancouver in numerous concert previews, reviews and interviews.
Geoffrey was recently appointed the Canadian correspondent for Seen
and Heard
International. That means that his reviews are posted with those from
concerts in London , New York, and throughout the world. He covers
the northwest with Seattle Times critic Bernard Jacobson. In today's
era when major newspapers are cutting jobs, including classical music
writers, we are lucky to have people such as Geoffrey whose passions
play a large role in preserving an appreciation for classical music
among citizens.
