2015-2016 SEASON
Thank
you to all of you who have already renewed your subscriptions as well
to new subscribers.
If you have not renewed yet but want to keep
the same seats, we encourage you
to do so before June 30 when we make all seats available to
subscribers. The
2015-2016 season looks absolutely fabulous. Each of the concerts
is set to be remarkable, and the opening and closing concert with the
highly sought Prats and the piano master, Nelson Freire are surely ones
to not be missed. .
At the age of 21 Cuban pianist Jorge Luis
Prats won the Grand Prix at the prestigious “Marguerite Long-Jacques
Thibaud” piano competition in Paris (1977) and shortly after, due to
visa restrictions, he disappeared from the music world for 30 years.
His return in 2007 has
been very impressive. Since then he dazzles both the audiences and the
critics and
in 2010 he performed for the third consecutive time in the prestigious
Master Piano Series in Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, which is an honor
only held by Alfred Brendel and Grigory Sokolov.
The apperances of one of the world’s
greatest
pianists, Nelson Freire, are rare enough to make his recital a very
special
event for classical music concertgoers. A CD of Freire's most coveted
performances is included on Philips' acclaimed series, "Great Pianists
of the 20th Century," released in 1999.
Dina Yoffe is a great Chopin interpreter who
won the 2nd prize in the prestigious Fryderyk Chopin
Competition in Warsaw (behind Krystian Zimerman in 1975), and
disappeared from the music world
for many years since because she was not allowed to leave the Soviet
Union.
Denes Varjon solo recordings and
performances in the last decade have received international critical
acclaim.
Please don't forget about our very special
event
at Tom
Lee Music on Sept 1 at 7:30 pm where we present Eric Lu, the winner of
the 9th
National Chopin Competition in Miami. This recital will help him to
better prepare for the Chopin Competition in Warsaw in October. This
recital is not included in the subscription.

17th International Chopin Competition in
Warsaw
I will be going to Warsaw in October to
watch the 17th edition of the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano
Competition. 450 pianists sent in their audio and DVD recordings
in the initial stage of the selection process. 160 pianists have been
accepted and auditioned in April in a preliminary round. Finally,
77 of them have been selected by an international jury and joined by
seven winners of other major piano competitions to play in October in
Warsaw. Based what we heard so far, the level of playing is incredible
high and a number of pianists who have a shot at being a prize winner
is well
above the number of finalists(10). We provided a link
to the playlist where you can listen to all April auditions.
The 15th International Tchaikovsky
Competition
The XV International Tchaikovsky Competition
takes place in Moscow and Saint Petersburg from June 15th to July 3rd,
2015(see link below).
