Mark Your Calendar, November 13, 2016
Charles Richard-Hamelin, silver medalist and laureate of the Krystian
Zimerman award of the best sonata at the International Chopin Piano
Competition in 2015 will
play for our Society on November 13, 2016. He is the first
Canadian to win a prize in this competition which takes place every
five years and is considered one of the
most difficult and prestigious competitions in the world.
It was a very close race between him and Korean Seong-Jin Cho and
according to jury members, the result could have gone either
way. I had the opportunity to attend the Competition this year, and my
reflection on my experience will be posted on vanclassicalmusic.com in
the coming week.
GivingTuesday
GivingTuesday is coming to Canada on December 1, 2015. We ask you to
participate in the opening day of the giving season. Please help our
Society- a registered charity which runs on a voluntary basis with
no administration cost, so that your every dollar goes to concert
expenses.
Our branded donation page is handled by CanadaHelps including automatic
tax-receipting.
You
can donate here.
The AGM
The Annual General Meeting of the Vancouver Chopin Society will be held
on Tuesday, Dec 8 at 7:00 pm in room 22A at the Vancouver Academy of
Music, 1270 Chestnut
Street, Vancouver, B.C.
Krystian Zimerman has a great message for
students
When Krystian Zimerman was awarded with an honorary doctorate by the
Fryderyk Chopin
University of Music in October 2015 in Warsaw, he made a short speech
to students of the Music University. Below is a link to Chopin Courier
where you can find his speech on the last page.
