Summer Concert Announced

Summer is often a “dry” season when it comes to musical activities. Thanks to our friends at Early Music Vancouver, their Bach Festival in August now offers panoply of world-class musical events. On Thursday August 1st, at 1:00 p.m., The Vancouver Chopin Society and Early Music Vancouver present historical keyboard specialist Byron Schenkman in recital at downtown’s Christ Church Cathedral. Playing on a beautifully restored 1870 Broadwood piano, Schenkman will present a varied programme of works by Chopin, Maria Szymanowska, Robert and Clara Schumann, and Brahms.

Performing on the piano, harpsichord, as well as fortepiano, Schenkman’s discography includes more than forty CD’s, including recordings on historical instruments from the National Music Museum, Vermillion, and Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts. The New York Times describes his playing as “elegant”, “sparkling” and “insightful”. Now residing and teaching in Seattle, Schenkman has also been a guest lecturer of harpsichord and fortepiano at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.

For subscribers of The Vancouver Chopin Society, Early Music Vancouver is offering a generous 25% discount off the regular $30 ticket price. Simply enter the code CHOPIN25 when purchasing tickets in order to qualify for the discount.
