Dear friends,
On behalf of the board of directors of The Vancouver Chopin
Society, we would like to thank our subscribers and audience
members who chose to donate the value of their tickets or receive
a credit for the coming season.
This has been an incredibly difficult time for us, as it is for
all arts organizations and artists. But with your support and
encouragement, we feel that we can weather this storm and look
forward to a time, hopefully in the very near future, when we can
and will once again see you at our concerts.
As you can imagine, we are looking to processing your donations,
but hope to get around to sending out tax receipts before the end
of April.
Depending on the extent of travel restrictions within Poland, we
are trying to have pianist Tomasz Ritter make a video recording of
the programme that he was to have played for us on March 23rd. Do
stay tuned for more details! This is our way to thank you for your
donation, which will be used not only to cover our expenses, but
to support artists like Ritter.
We invite you to watch two excellent documentaries released
recently by The Chopin Institute in Warsaw.
The first one presents famous fortepiano builder Paul McNulty. Our final concert next
season on May 23 will not only mark the Vancouver debut of Dmitry
Ablogin, but will feature, for the first time, Early Music
Vancouver’s newly-acquired copy of Conrad Graf’s 1819 fortepiano,
built by Paul McNulty. One of Chopin’s favorite pianos that he had
at his home was Buchholtz piano. The Chopin Institute has decided
to commission a copy of Buchholtz piano by Paul McNulty in 2017.
You can watch his work in this short documentary.
The second documentary is about historically informed performances explained
by the great pianists.
In the meantime, we wish you all good health, peace and joy during
this period of isolation and distancing from our fellow human
beings.
With our heartfelt appreciation,
Patrick May, President
Iko Bylicki, Senior Manager
