Those who attended Nelson Goerner's concert
know what they would have missed by not attending this magnificant
event. Few
pianists dare to play Beethoven's Hammerklavier and even Beethoven
specialists fail. This was one of our most memorable events and the
good news is that we invited Nelson to play for us again. You can read
a full review of his concert by clicking on the link provided below.
Nelson
Goerner is already a favourite pianist of many music
connoisseurs and is well deserving of his world-wide recognition.
Geoffrey
Newman from Vancouver Classical Music interviewed Nelson before the
concert and in this excellent interview, Nelson Goerner reveals some
of the
important moments from his biography. The link to this must-read
interview is provided below in the news section.
We still have one more terrific pianist to
present this season. Born in 1992, Nikolay Khozyainov is one of the
most promising pianists of his generation. Dace Saemann from Fanfare
Magazine wrote about him: He clearly is a
special artist. The fact
that, at his age, his talent only can grow is intimidating. The
possibilities for his artistry seem almost limitless.”
We extend our deepest thanks to those whose
support has helped us to run our series.
2015-2016 SEASON
We announced our new 2015-2016 season at
Goerner's concert but our brochures will be mailed to you next week. In
the meantime you can download
the brochure or subscription
form from our web site or by clicking one of the links
provided below in the news section.
This
season we have a
fantastic line up of four great
pianists: Jorge
Luis Prats, a
Cuban marvel, hailed as a long-lost virtuoso in the grand tradition;
Hungarian pianist Denes
Varjon known for highly expressive and
imaginative interpretations;
the Latvian-born Israeli pianist Dina
Yoffe, known for her Chopin
recordings and interpretations; and Nelson
Freire, one of the world’s
greatest pianists. Each of the concerts is set to be remarkable, and
the opening and closing concert with the highly sought Prats and the
piano master, Nelson Freire
are surely ones to not be missed.
We also want to bring to your attention a
very special event at Tom
Lee Music on Sept 1 at 7:30 pm. Recently we watched the 9th
National Chopin Competition in Miami that was broadcasted live on the
Internet. The winner Eric Lu received
$75,000 and an automatic acceptance to the Chopin Competition in Warsaw
in
October 2015. Seventeen-year-old Eric Lu is such an extraordinary
talent that we decided to present him to our audience in September and
also help him
as he needs to play concerts to better prepare for the October
Competition.
When you look at the subscription form you
will notice that we implemented a second type of subscriptions. All our
concerts are at the Playhouse and we divided the
venue in two sections: A - middle and left side of orchestra and
balcony
and B - right side of orchestra and balcony. We raised the price
in Section A slightly but we introduced a very low price in section B.
The
senior/student subscription in section B costs only $80. You have to
admit that $20 per ticket for concert played by such piano giant
as Nelson Freire is
an excellent bargain. Being a senior myself, I know how important it is
to
maintain low senior ticket prices.
We
also want you to know that we negotiate the artist contracts
two years prior to the artists coming to Vancouver. We couldn't predict
what
the
rate of exchange will be and unfortunately this has had a great impact
on
our budget this season and it will also affect us next season. We
survived this season but we need help from our friends and loyal
subscribers. Subscribing to our series is a great help too.
You will be
able to buy your subscriptions the same way as in previous
years, either by phone: 604.871.4450 or online through a Tickets
Tonight secure server:
http://ticketstonight.ticketforce.com/eventperformances.asp?evt=2881
You can also send us a cheque. The tickets
will be sent to all subscribers before September 1. As after every
concert, we
invite everyone to join us for a reception with the artist's attendance.
Subscribers not only enjoy the best seats, but
also get
fantastic offers for most of our events. If you are a current
subscriber and would like to keep the same seats, please renew your
subscription before June 30th.
