There are only two days from the concert which
is highlight of
the
season. The brilliant Argentinian pianist, Nelson Goerner, whom we have
been trying to bring to Vancouver
for many years, will play a very demanding program, including
Beethoven's Hammerklavier, one
of the greatest pieces of music ever written. This Sonata tests every
aspect of pianists' art
more than any other of Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas.
Goerner has just played this program last Sunday for the Frederic
Chopin
Society in Minneapolis and
their Facebook post is telling us everything: "How do you say thank
you to a great artist for the concert of a lifetime? By the end of the
'Hammerklavier,' we were speechless!". According to the Artistic
Director, Tadeusz Majewski, there is a lack of words to describe how
great this interpretation was.
One of our Facebook fans wrote to us:
" A truly great pianist I discovered one day during a radio broadcast
dedicated to Thierry de Brunhoff. The radio host tried to speak with
him,
but as a monk, he has chosen a life of silence and could not be
interviewed, he just requested that we listen to music played by Nelson
Goerner."
Nelson Goerner’s new Schumann disc is BBC Music Magazine’s Recording of
the Month for March 2015. Jessica Duchen’s 5-star review lauds
Goerner's “delicacy, good sense, beauty of tone and rapt atmospheres”.
A wine reception will follow the concert and
we will reveal the incredible artist lineup for the 2015-2016 season.
