The Musical Experience of a Lifetime!
Don’t miss the performance by Maria Pomianowska and her Folk Band – Saturday, October 14 at the Playhouse.
In this concert, we are presenting the folk music that Chopin would have heard growing up in Poland. Not only will you be able to hear these dances, you will also be able to see them being danced by Vancouver’s own Polonez Dance Group. Come also to experience musical instruments you may have never seen before! When was the last time you saw the suka bilgorajska or fidel plocka being played? Intrigued? Come to hear and see for yourself!
And this is only half the concert. After intermission, the folk band will be joined by a string ensemble and stellar gathering of world music instrumentalists in a cross cultural “jam session” – how would Chopin’s music influence other musical traditions? You are sure to be in for a real musical adventure.
During intermission of the evening (7:30 p.m.) concert on October 14th, the entire audience is invited for a glass of wine, to celebrate 150 years of Canada and the 25th year of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Vancouver. After the concert there will be a meet and greet reception where you will be able to chat with the artists, purchase their CD and have them autograph it for you and your friends.
