Welcome to The Vancouver Chopin Society’s remarkable 2025 – 2026 season. Once again, we have devoted much time and effort to arrange for this stellar lineup of artists for this season.
The season kicks off in a spectacular fashion with two Canadian artists – Eric Guo, winner of the 2nd International Chopin Competition in Warsaw o period Instruments in 2023, and Charles Richard-Hamelin, silver medalist of the 2015 International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, and Artistic Director of The Vancouver Chopin Society.
Japanese superstar Kyohei Sorita will make a return visit to Vancouver. You may remember the excitement of his sold-out debut recital for us in 2023. Get your tickets early!
The excitement continues in 2026 with an Orpheum concert presenting the gold medalist of this year’s International Chopin Competition in Warsaw. Who will be crowned winner of this, one of the world’s most prestigious competitions, in October this year? Stay tuned!
With our friends at Early Music Vancouver, we will present Ronald Brautigam, highlighting the beautiful and intimate sound world of the forte piano.
We have arranged the debut of Ukrainian-Canadian Dmitry Levkovich and the return of Sofya Gulyak, who last played for us in 2013. In May of 2026, there will be a concert featuring another prizewinner of the upcoming International Chopin Competition.
Finally, a concert that will surely heat up our ticketing system – a solo recital by Daniil Trifonov – his first solo recital in Vancouver since 2013.
Three remaining concerts of this season
The first one is a recital by Piotr Pawlak which marks Polish Heritage Month in Canada as well as Polish Constitution Day (May 3rd, 1791), and is realized in cooperation with the Polish National Institute of Music and Dance, and is co-funded by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, as well as supported in part by the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Vancouver.
An award-winning pianist as well as an organist and mathematician, Piotr Pawlak is the silver medalist at the 2023 International Chopin Competition on Period Instruments (Warsaw), as well as winner of many other international competitions. He frequently concertizes in Finland, throughout Poland and Europe, as well as in Japan and the United States. He also has a Master’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Gdansk, and is currently preparing his doctoral dissertation. A very talented man indeed.
When we heard Avery Gagliano’s performance at the 2021 International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, we found her playing so compelling and thoroughly moving that we knew that we simply had to bring her to Vancouver to perform for our audience. At the competition, her playing of Chopin’s B-flat minor sonata was stunning, and her performance of the composer’s elusive mazurkas perfectly captured their quirky rhythmic quality as well as the very intricate counterpoint. Don’t miss the Vancouver debut of this hugely talented young pianist.
Looking forward to seeing all of you at the Vancouver Playhouse!
Pianist Mikhail Voskresensky had everything in his native Russia – a thriving concert career, and a prestigious appointment as head of the piano department at the venerable Moscow Conservatory. The pupils of this legendary teacher have won a whopping 126 international prizes, including 55 gold medals.
All that changed when Russia invaded Ukraine.
Voskresensky gave up everything and fled his beloved country as a sign of protest, and immigrated to the United States of America. “For me, it was only one choice,” he commented on his fateful decision. In America, Voskresensky continues his concert career, giving masterclasses and serving as a member of the jury in prestigious piano competitions.
