We are incredibly excited about all the concerts of this season. What a stellar array of artists we have playing for you in the coming year! After fantastic first two concerts of the season by Kevin Chen and Martin Garcia Garcia we are looking forward to attending a recital by brilliant Vadym Kholodenko.

When Cliburn Competition winner Vadym Kholodenko made his stunnng debut in Vancouver, the pianist moved the audience with songfulness in his Schubert playing, as well as an astounding virtuosity and kaleidoscopic colours and unique sound palette in Prokofiev’s 7th sonata. At the end of his recital, we knew that we had just heard a performance by a miraculous pianist whose musicianship is welcomed in the most prestigious halls in the world. We just had to bring him back to play for you.

The audience at the 2015 Tchaikovsky Piano Competition went wild over pianist Lucas Debargue’s playing, and the rapturous reaction to this young pianist was compared to that Glenn Gould and Van Cliburn received in Moscow. He has also been the subject of a major documentary entitled “To Music”. This will be Debargue’s Vancouver debut.

Dimitry Ablogin was the artistic find of Warsaw’s 1st International Chopin Competition for Historic Instrument. He is considered one of today’s most brilliant and creative keyboard artists. We are happy to be once again collaborating with our friends at Early Music Vancouver to present this gifted young artist, who will be performing on the beautiful Conrad Graf Fortepiano, made by master instrument builder Paul McNulty. Come and explore the unique sound world of the period piano, performed by one of its most outstanding exponents.

The legendary Dang Thai Son needs no introduction to our audience. When he performed for us in his sold-out 2023 recital, we had to turn away many people who had hoped to purchase tickets. Well, we managed to bring him back, this time sharing the stage with three of his most talented and prizewinning pupils.

When we heard Avery Gagliano’s performance at the 2021 International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, we found her playing so compelling and thoroughly moving that we knew that we simply had to bring her to Vancouver to perform for our audience. At the competition, her playing of Chopin’s B-flat minor sonata was stunning, and her performance of the composer’s elusive mazurkas perfectly captured their quirky rhythmic quality as well as the very intricate counterpoint. Don’t miss the Vancouver debut of this hugely talented young pianist.

Don’t forget about special concert by pianist Carl Petersson, to be held on Saturday, November 9th, at 7:30 p.m., at downtown’s beautiful Christ Church Cathedral.

Looking forward to seeing all of you at the Vancouver Playhouse!
